Ivan The Tolerable Unveils Cosmic Double Album "House of the Hidden Light"
We're absolutely thrilled to announce that Ivan The Tolerable is back with his most expansive and immersive work to date: House of the Hidden Light — a sprawling double album that takes listeners on a cosmic odyssey through psychedelia, jazz, and ambient exploration.
A Space to Get Lost In
UK sonic adventurer Oli Heffernan (Ivan The Tolerable) has spent the last decade fearlessly charting new territories in underground music. From the motorik pulse of Rations to the sprawling kosmische jazz of White Tears and the hypnotic rituals of Autodidact II, he's built a singular catalog that constantly pushes the edges of form, genre, and fidelity.
House of the Hidden Light represents both a culmination and reinvention. Recorded between North Yorkshire and various remote locations over the past year, this cosmic drift feels both ancient and futuristic — a soundtrack for an undiscovered planet or an internal voyage.
"This record is about creating a space to get lost in," says Heffernan. "It's not about arriving anywhere — it's about staying in motion, dissolving boundaries. There are moments of melody, sure, but they might be gone in seconds. It's about trusting the process and letting the sound lead."
The Journey Unfolds
The lines between composition and improvisation blur as modular synths swell against wild reeds, field recordings fade into celestial drones, and ghost rhythms bubble just beneath the surface. The album features collaborator Ben Hopkinson on saxophone and electric piano, adding another dimension to Heffernan's sonic explorations.
