OUT NOW: Vinnum Sabbathi - Intersatelital EP Commemorates 40 Years of Mexican Space Exploration
Today marks a historic milestone - exactly 40 years ago, on June 17th, 1985, Mexico launched into the space age with the Morelos I & II satellite missions and sent Dr. Rodolfo Neri Vela as the country's first astronaut into orbit. To commemorate this pivotal moment, Mexican heavy psych masters Vinnum Sabbathi have released their most ambitious work yet: the Intersatelital EP.
This isn't coincidence - it's destiny. The band specifically chose today's date to honor the exact anniversary of NASA missions STS-51-G and STS-61-B, which put the Morelos communications satellites in orbit and marked Mexico's entry into a new era of technology and communications, controlled and monitored by Mexican engineers in the heart of Mexico City.
"Intersatelital" captures this moment through three crushing tracks that explore the intricate human-machine relationships that defined space exploration: "Centro de Control Espacial," "Sistema de Satélites Morelos," and "Rodolfo Neri Vela." The EP features actual samples from Dr. Neri Vela himself, creating what the band describes as "a sonic testament of intricate human-machine comradeship from the last century."
Recorded at Testa Estudio in León, Mexico, with additional synthesizer work by Juan Tamayo at The Addendoom, the release showcases stunning cover artwork by Indonesian artist Asep Yasin Abdulah - making this a truly international collaboration between Mexico, the UK (Stolen Body Records), Italy (Teschio Dischi), and Indonesia.
